BOWLERS FAREWELL MR WHITE A pleasing function took place last evening, when members of the bnan : non Bowling Club assembled at the Pavilion to bid farewell to one of then fellow bowlers, in the person of M A T White, who is leaving Shannon this week to take up his residence i at Carterton, where he has been appointcd headmaster of the District High S After several toasts had been honoured Mr A. H. Morgan, president of Iho Club, in proposing the toast, ot eir guest, said that Mr White ha + d joined the Club when he first ; came to Shannon four years ago, and had pioved himself to be one of their most active members, having held office .as vice president and later as Resident He had always found him exceedingly straight in alb his dealings, this being a characteristic which will always be with him. In all matters he was straight to the point and above suspldoi He was'not difficult to worn with on committees as his colleague always knew where they stood with him. As a bowler he had been, a member of the rink .which won the muel. coveted Dixon Cup. He. was always willing to travel and help in any matters affecting the welfare of the Club. They were losing an exceedingly valuable member, not only as a bowl", but as a citizen, and he will be a lo&s not only to the Club, but to Shannon and-district. . Mr Jones in adding his felicitations, referred to Mr White's success as a teacher, congratulating him on his promotion, which, he said, was a great asset to any member of the Government service. As a tea'cher he was hard to beat, as he had the confidence and comradeship, of the children and results have proved his teachings.. A* a citizen his place will be hard to fill, as he is not only a good sport, but a good citizen and churchman, a tine combination for any man to have. After all the members present had eulogised the good qualities of Mr White as a citizen and in the held ot sport they congratulated him on his promotion and expressed regret at his departure. Mr Morgan then presented Mr White with a wallet accompanied by thanks for the work he had done tor the Club, expressing the hope that the memento would serve to remind him of the time he spent with them as a member of the Club. Hearty good wishes were also extended to Mrs White and Miss- White. Three cheers were then given for the recipient. Mr White on rising to return thanks was greeted with applause. He saidhe was very pleased to meet them and hear the words of appreciation, of his efforts in the sphere of action he bad taken. In assisting sport he considered it his duty and he thought persons in his position should do their best to help the district they lived m. He would alwavs treasure the memento, and was pleased with the gathering and words of commendation from the different members. He had reaped pleasure from any of the activities h? had taken part in and thanked members of the Club and individuals for the good time given him and the outstanding courtesies meted out to him He Daid thanks to Mr W. H. Gunning, whom he said went to ,a lot of trouble in coaching him when he joined the Club as a beginner. Referring to the school, he said that was his sphere ot work, he had no other. The school he always placed before anything After the singing for "He's a Jolly Good Fellow" and "Auld Lang Syne the gathering dispersed.
