TRUTH ABOUT LAWRENCE.

AFGHAN REVOLT, (Sun Special.) LONDON, February 14., “The truth about Colonel Lawrence, the uncrowned King of Arabia, who, as' Aircraftsman Shaw, was accused of playing a leading part in the Afghan revolt i 3 that he has not even put foot into Afghanistan.” {This statement was made by a British Government spokesman to “The Sun’s” political correspondent to-dav in connection with the “Daily News” article urging Parliament to demand the truth about Lawrence, In fact, the doubt that has again arisen concerning Colonel Lawrence’s north-eastern frontier activities has caused authoritative quarters. to reiterate that Colonel Lawrence was there solely as an aircraftsman at his own wish, and was involved In no other activities. It is stated that his coming ashore at Plymouth in a naval launch was entirely Lawrence’s personal arrangement with a naval friend. The launch was in no way officially sent. ' It is clear, however, that the Government will be called on for a fuller explanation, not because of any doubt regarding Lawrence’s actual work, but as the result of permitting Lawrence to serve where suspicions would be obviously aroused among other Powers. Another Vickers-Victoria troop-car-rier which left Peshawar for Kabul on Friday to pick up refugees is missing.
