DISPUTE OVER PUKEHOU DEVIATION.

LAND OWNER THREATENS TO PENCE.

A threat to fence on land taken by the County Council for the Main Highway deviation near Mr G-. Bevan's, at Pukehou, near Manakau, if arrangements, are not made in settlement of a compensation claim; was contained' in a letter received by the Council oa Saturday. The writer, Mr Teone Pohio, stated that the proclamation for the old. road was signed in ' 1881, and no proclamation."had been, signed for tho new road. He had been told by the Survey Department and the Native Laud Court that the present road was illegally taken. The ,owners ; wero wanting £6OO compensation. If the Council did not soon do something in the matter, the owners intended to take things into their own handstand fence. This had been before the Council for the last twelve month's and nothing had been done. The writer asked fo? an early reply stating what the Council intended to do in the matter.

The Chairman moved that the letter be referred to. the Work* Committee, who were handling the matter. He, urged that preparation. of the plan be hastened, so that legalisation- could be carried out immediately. The motion wag. earned.
