BUCKLEY DRAINAGE BOARD.

A meeting of the Buckley Drainage Board was held at Shannon on Thursday last.* Present: Trustees R. W. Taylor (chairman), R. Law, R. Speirs, J. Edginton and H. Easton. . CORRESPONDENCE.

The Manawatu-Oroua River Board wrote, asking the Board to • appoint representatives to join a deputation to the Government requesting £1 for £i subsidy towards the Board’s modified scheme of flood control of the Manawatu and Oroua Rivers.—The Board resolved to be represented. The Public Works Department, writing with reference to the Board’s ap* plication for a grant towards . flood damage repairs asked that an estimate in detail be suoniitted.

From Mr ' Biyant asking, that permanent repairs be made to the floodgate as should settlers have an early Easter flood it will cost those on the low land hundreds of pounds. —Consideration to be given to this matter. , From the acting District. Engineer N.Z. Railways, Wanganui, stating that in connecting the southern levee to the railway embankment at the railway bridge.over the Koputaroa Stream the Board has disregarded the conditions laid down by him in a letter to the District Public Works Engineer, Wellington, and asking that arrangements be made to cut the new levee immediately making a gap the full depth of the stop bank and not less than 20 feet wide working from the railway embankment westwards. After a long discussion, during which it- was mentioned that if the Railway Department, instructions were carried out the Board’s banking scheme as completed would be practically useless, it was resolved to request Mr F. C. Hay to interview the Department with a- view to having the band, a 3 at present- erected, remain. . .
