CHAMPIONSHIP SINGLES.

The first round of the championship singles was commenced on Wednesday evening. The competition, which drew thirteen competitors, was run on the sudden death principle. The folloAving are the results of the first round: — Roach 21 v. Clayton 9; Morgan 20 v. Franks 18; Whiblcy 18 v. Henry 12; Jones 21 v. Grey 14; Hook 20 v.■ Quarrie 18; Bovis defeated Kjioavlcs; Blackwood a bye.

The second round played last evening resulted as follows:—-Whiblcy 20 v. Jones 6; Hook won by default from Bovis; Roach 23 v. Blackwood 11. Morgan a bye. The draw for the third round which is to be played by Monday night is Morgan v. Hook and Road v. Whib''loy.
