The swimming carnival at the Palmerston North muncipal baths last evening under the auspices of the Manawatu Amateur Swimming Centre was a distinct success in every way, with a packed gallery, good racing and excellently controlled- * The principal event on the programme, the men’s 100 yds championship, was won by a local swimmer, Mr Li. Palmer, of Levin Svviming Club, .who Ims met with much success at evening swims at the Levin baths. Following is the result: — Men’s 100yds Championship. First heat: L. Palmer (Levin) 1, G. Hirini (Foxton) 2, A. Penman 3. Also started: L. Seifert (Levin). Won by two yards each way. Time, 1.7 1-5. Second heat: W. Hirini (Foxton) 1, M. J. Eade (Feilding) 2, E. Fletcher (P.N.) 3. Also started: H. Anderson (Apollo). Won by 1£ yards, a yard Time, l.Dsecs. FINAL. L. Palmer 1 W. Hirini 2 P. C. Eade 3 The winner lead the whole way. A strong turn at the last length gave him sufficient lead to stave off a challenge from W. ’ Hirini by two yards ' Eade was three yards further ba*k. Time, 1.6.
