POULTRY EXPERT LEAVING.
PRESENTATION BY WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION DIRECTORS. At the last meeting of Directors of the Wellington District Poultry Farmers’ Association, held oh Friday last, the opportunity ivas taken to bid farewell to one of their iiumber, : , Mr F. 11. Cooper, of Taita, Lower Hutt, who has disposed of his property and is leaving shortly for Norfolk , Island, where he has secured, a plantation and intends residing. In making a presentation, personally subscribed by the Directors, of a siver mounted oak tray inscribed for Mrs Cooper, and a cheque to Mr Cooper, the chairman referred to the fact that the Association was losing one of the founders of the organization, who had been elected a Director each year since the incorporation of the Company. In expresing regret at his departure reference was made to his good work in the interests of poultry farmers generally both in Wellington and as delegate to the New Zealand Poultry Association, of which he is a vice-presi-dent.
Messrs G. >9. Bates, S. H. Tyler, and S. G. Batten spoke in eulogistic terms of Mr Cooper’s services in the interests of the poultry industry and the hope was expressed that the change to the warmer climate would have the beneficial effect desired in Mrs Cooper’s health.
In responding, Mr Cooper referred to the origin of the Association and to some of the difficulties in its career, and to the fact that so many outsiders vvere making good use of the organization. It made him wonder sometimes whether there was any appreciation of the voluntary services of the few who did devote a lot of attention to the welfare of the industry. He hoped there was, for he felt sure there was no primary industry in the country that needed organisation more than the poultry business. Without it, he could not see that poultry-keep-ing would ever be a success. During his many years’ connection with the industry, he had seen many changes, and he hoped to hear that progress was being made, and that better returns we.».e coming to those engaged in the business. He, however, felt sure that the cost of production, owing to high prices of feed, was out of proportion to the prices realized by poultry farmers.
Under the nom-de-plume of “New Laid,” Mr Cooper is well-known as a writer on subjects connected with poultry-keeping, and he has many personal friends in the Levin district.
