CATTLE ON THE LINE.

COLLISION AT PAPAPARAUMU.

On Friday night the Daylight Express from Auckland ran into a mob of cattle, -which had strayed onto the lino at Lynch's Crossing, near Paraparaumu.

Several were knocked clear of the line and injured. When the driver pulled up, he was surprised to lind one of the cattle still straddled across the front of the engine. Those who went to disentangle what they imagined was a badly hurt animal were very quickly disillusioned. Suddenly regaining its senses, the beast was off the “cowcatcher” in a -flash. One bound, and it had cleared the cattle-stops and was off. The delay was a brief one and after 10 minutes or so the train continue!, it* journey. '
