PARAPARAUMU’S PROGRESS.
NEW WATER SUPPLY. About 200 people attended the turn-ing-on ceremony" at the new Paraparaumu beach township water .tower' on Saturday afternoon. The ceremony was performed 1 in bright sunshine, and at the conclusion tea was made with the water. A fine view is to be obtained from, the top of the tower, which is 40ft in height and a landmark for miles around.
Mr. S. G. Nathan, councillor for the Wcraroa Riding in the Hutt .County Council, traced the history of the scheme and sketched the process which was being completed that day. The cost of the installation was just under £2300, he said, and the residents of the township, which comprised about 90 houses, had foimed themselves into a special rating area. The total cost would be paid .off in twenty years. The board had a water-diviner out, and he had told them that they would strike water at between 150 and 200 feet down. It had been struck at 157 feet. The tank held 14,000 gallons. Mr. W. 11. Field, M.P., congratulated the district upon its progressive spirit and .enterprise, and then ‘asked Mrs. Nathan to turn on the water.
