LEVIN SHOW.

VARIOUS ARRANGEMENTS IN HAND. MOTOR-CYCLE RACE FOB LOCAL AMATEURS TO BE HELD. ? STEER-RIDING AN ' IMPORTANT EVENT. A meeting of the general committee of the Horowhenua A. and U. Association was held in the association’s office on Wednesday. The president (Mill. J. Richards) was in the chair, and there was a large attendance.•.. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs J. Kebbell, F. 11. Gorringe, and L. Griffiths. DONATIONS.

In response to the circular letter sent out soliciting financial support, the following donations were reeeiv- • ed: —Kuku Dairy Company £5 ss, Magnus Motors £l, Wellington Meat Export Company £2 2s, Auctioneers,’ Associated £5 ss, Levin Dairy Company £5 ss, Shannon Dairy Company £1 Is, A. S. Paterson and Company £1 Is, Dominion newspaper £2 2s, With regard to the , last-named donation, 'which had been promised as a trophy, the chairman reported that a reply had been sent to the donors stating that, as the schedules were now published, it w r as proposed to use the amount as a special cash prize, in the name of the donors, for the best dairy cow. ;

A sum of £1 was forwarded by a donor who proposed that it be offered as a prize in Class 28 (mare or gelding most suitable for hunter) provided that the' entrants w'ei-e required to jump one hurdle. The -secretary explained that entries had already been received according to the schedule, in which no such condition was stipulated.

It was decided to -ascertain if the donor would be agreeable to the amount being allotted in some other way.

Following upon representations made by the Mayor (Mr T. Hobson), Mr F. S. Easton, of Foxton, wrote stating that lie would have much pleasure in presenting a fat bullock for the weigh't-guessing competition. On the motion of Mr C. Sherwood, seconded by (Mr W. Falloon, a resolution was passed thanking Mr Easton for his generous gift, also Mr Hobson for his action on behalf of the association. ADMISSION TO GRANDSTAND. In a letter in which he regretted his inability to attend owing to sickness, Mr Kebbtll called attention to his suggestion that the price of admission to the grandstand should be raised from 2s 6d to ss. The Chairman stated 'that the matter had been discussed .and. the, committee had come to the conclusion that 2s 6d was a, sufficient charge at the lawn gaste. ■ SHOW OFFICIALS. The following officials to act a't th/j show were appointed:—.'Lawn Gate, Mr P. W r . Goldsmith, outside motor entrance, Mr F. 11. Gorringe ticket office (second day), Mr E. S. Crisp; stock gate, Mr A. Claridge. Bullock guessing, Mr 11. Webb; trucking, Mr R. Lock; carrying from station, Mr 11. Hossack: paduoeking committee, Messrs-C. Bartholomew', J. Kilsby and R. V. Brown. Ring marshal, Mr G. Tully. Chief stewards: Competitions, Mr G. Kingdon; cattle, Mr S. Sievers; sheep, Miff. Shepherd; pigs, Mr Ranald (Mac Donald; dogs, Mr C. Sherwood; clog trials, Mr' Howard Nicholson; sideshow's, Mr J'. \Y. Procter. Protest Committee, Messrs G. Tully, G. Kingdon and S. A. Broad belt. Nightwatchman, Mr Swan wick;.'catalogue seller, Mr Teal. The secretary was instructed to take out a public insurance risk of £SOO, at a cost of £lO for the two days. v

It was decided that the office at the Showgrounds be connected with the telephone exchange for the duration of the IShow. 'The Levin Band is to be asked to provide a musical programme r.t the same fee us last year, namely £7, 10s, but ou condition that the bandsmen pay for their luncheon. Hot water is to be available to picnickers without charge, but with the option of making contributions to the expense.-

lt was resolved that the BoroughCouncil be asked if they would allow the Inspector- to supervise the parking of motor ears.

The dog pavilion is to be eleaufd out this week, and it was decided that the Borough Council be asked for the use of the spraying machine for distempering the pens. For the purpose of attending to these and other matters, working bees will assemble at the grounds on Saturday morning. Donations of a sheep each were promised by Messrs Mungavin, Falloou, J. Kilsby and Swainson for the guessing competitions.

STEER-RIDING. It was reported that Messrs Evan Jones and W. McLennan were prepared to collect nominations for the steer-riding contest, and' it was decided that lists be opened accordingly at the Levin .Hotel ancl the Grand Hotel. Mr Hare is lending 25 steers for the contest, and these were'recent ly dehorned at his farm by Mr Skilton in the presence of a special'committee. A working bee has commenced the erection of a suitable yard on the Showgrounds, for this competition. It was agreed to send a letter of thanks to Mr Skilton for his services in dehorning the steers. DOG SECTION. Mr Sherwood drew attention to the 1 donation by the Wellington Provinc:al Fox Terrier Club of the York Cup , (noted in the schedule). It was de-'

cided that the club be written to’ and thanked for their liberal gift.

MC TOR-CYCLING

Mr Denton asked if there was, any possibility of a motor-cycle race being Included iu the programme, such event to be for local riders. He was informed by motor-cyclists that about twenty entries would be forthcoming. (Mr Bould stated that -he had alsu been approached by a number of motor-cyclists with the suggestion that such a race should be held.

The meeting resolved that a njjotorcvcle rare be held, preferably on the first day, and tho President and Messrs Denton and Bould confer to arrange the details. > ■ -CABINET MINISTERS TO BE INVITED.

A suggestion was made by Mr Tully that, in addition to having the members of Parliament for M,anawa'tu and Otaki (Messrs Linklater and Field) at the Show, the Committee .should ihvite two Ministers of tlie Crown to be present. The idea was heartily endorsed aiid it was agreed that the.; Minister ofLands and Agriculture (Hon. G. W. Forbes) and the Minister of Commerce (Hon. J. G. Cobbe) be invited to attend. The cups and trophies will be exhibited at the Show, and the tw> members of Parliament .Will be asked 1o present them to the successful competitors, the ceremony to take place immediately', after the grand parade. UNPAID DUES. The Chairman mentioned the matter of outstanding subscriptions, and the secretary stated that 230 members l ad not paid their dues for the current year. The meeting confirmed the action of the President and the secretary in having notices printed calling the attention of such members individually to the resolution- of the ; association that no show privileges will be Issued to those -whose subscriptions have not been paid. It was decided to hold another meeting of the general committee 6n the evening of Monday, January 21st.
