TOTE ERRORS.
AUTOMATIC FAULTS.
(Sun Special.) OTTAWA, Nov. 16,
The Australian system of automatic totalisators used on several Canadian racetracks this season has been discarded. Government officials who supervised the test explained that unless every dollar bet and no more is registered on the totalisator-board it naturally follows that the winning prices, which are calculated from those board figures, cannot be accurate, ’then, one of two things occurs, either the Racing Association pays, out more than it should to winning bettors or those winning bettors do not. receive the full amount to/vhich they are entitled. The officials tried to establish whether or not all bets were properly recorded, and the results ■ were such as to raise .great doubt, as to reliability In so far as accuracy is concerned. In 48 races where the automatic machine was the total amounts bet as registered .from the total sales at the selling machines did not correspond with the total amounts bet as shown on the totalisator board from which winning -prices' were calculated.
