REPRESENTATIVE CRICKET.
HOROWHENUA DEFEAT WELLINGTON 11.
The first representative fixture of the present season was played in Levin on Wednesday, when a team selected from the clubs in the Horowhenua district, met and defeated a. junior representative team from Wellington, The match commenced at 31 a.m. and was played in ideal weather. ' Wellington won the toss and eleete 1 to bat first. Neale and Elliott were the opening batsmen and the telegraph showed 47 before Neale was clean bowled by Hellamore. Elliott was run cut shortly afterwards and Hankins soon fell a* victim to Hellamore's wiles. Bilby followed shortly after and the only other Wellington batsman who made a stand was McGavin, who scored 16 before he was dismissed by a catch taken by S. Simcox off Bennett. Wellington’s Innings closed for the total of 109. Horowhenua opened with Bull and Warren and this partnership brought the total to 66 before Warren was caught and bowled by Brabin. Flutey then went in and 81 was hoisted before he -was dismissed by being clean bowled by Algar. P. Simcox and Bull then took the score to 119, when Bull was caught by McGavin off Neale after having made 80 runs in the course of a brilliant innings. The incoming batsman was Baumbev, who contributed 13 to the-tally before he was eaughi. by Algar .off Neale with the score board showing 1324 —13. Six runs later Simcox terminated a useful innings, after having scored 19. Bennett and Hellamore then took the score to 173, when Hellamore- was caughtand O'Connor called his men in.
