Shearing i 3 now in full swing around Shannon. The sheep have wintered well and the clip is considered to be a record one. If last season's good prices are anywhere near maintained, the owner of the little lamb should have a successful year.
Mr W. Murdoch, Avho has been staying in Shannon for the past fortnight, returned to. Wellington yesterday. He is highly delighted with the result of the election —except Manawatu. Some say he has visions of the Upper House. We will all wish him luck.
An accident occurred on the highway at Ihakara about 9 o'clock yesterday morning, when a car which was proceeding from Wellington to Palmevston North went over the' bank near .Mr Law's. The driver was fortunate enough to escape with slight injuries, but the car was badly smashed.
The attendance at the fortnightly live hundred card 'tourney held last evening was not so good as usual. Those present had an enjoyable time. <Mesdam.es Hennessey and McLaggan won the most games during the evening, thus winning the trophies donated by Mr and Mrs C. Crouqucst
A public meeting of citizens of Shannon and surrounding-.districts will be held on Tuesday, the 20th inst., at 8 p?m., in 'the Council Chambers to discuss procuring the services of a resident doctor in Shannon. As this is a matter of vital importance to the whole of the community, it is hoped that all who are interested will attend.
Shannon and district has always been noted for its wonderful grass lands, and to see the pastures at present with their luxurious growth of beautiful green grass, would gladden the heart of any farmer, but this same, grass is the despair of those who push the lawn mower, some of our residents declaring that it grows inches in a night.

One of the novelty features of "Jack and the Beanstalk" to. be staged by Miss Myrtle Williams next Thursday "and Friday, will be the ten-foot giant. The costume and mask for this have been specially imported from England.
The report of Mr J. W. lluggins, Health .Inspector, submitted to the County Council on Saturday gave the following particulars: —Infectious disease cases investigated: Scarlet fever 1, diphtheria 1, pneumonia 1. Sanitary inspections: Habitations, visits 14, requisitions served 3; food-sellers' premises, visits 2; plumbing and drainage, visits 1, requisitions served 1. The Inspector suggested that, where a permit wa-i issued for a new building, the particulars (owner and address) should be forwarded to him; he would then be able to visit to ensure that plumbing and drainage by-laws were being observed.
