The Shannon Co-operative Dairy Co.'s pay-out for butterfat supplied during the month of October will bo Is 54d per lb.

Mr. Reynolds, of Wellington, is at present relieving Mr. B. J. Brann, manager of the Bank of New Zealand, who has been, called away to Cambridge (Waikato), where his father is very seriously ill.

The fortnightly five hundred card tourney will be held on Thursday evening at 7.30 in the Ballance Street Hall. The prizes for the most points scored during, the evening will be a tin of biscuits and two pairs of gent's sox. As usual a good supper will be provided.

Mr C. Thomas, stationmaster, who has been transferred to Westport, leaves Shannon on Saturday to take up his hew position. Mr C. M. Todd, now in charge of the goods office at Dannevirke Avill succeed him at Shannon. Mr Todd takes over on 28th November, but in the meantime Mr E. A. Taylor from Petone will carry on.

On Wednesday afternoon a very instructive demonstration of millinery was given in the Ballance Street Hall by Mrs. Guerin to a large attendance of members of the Women's Institute, and as a result some very useful hints in the art were learned by those present. It has been decided to carry on weekly classes tester Christmfas and over a dozen members expressed their intention of joining up.

An accident occurred at the punt vesterday, when a motor lorry belonging to the 'Shannon Co-operative Dairy Co., ran off the punt into the river. The lorry, which was driven by Mr A. Richards, was coming from Moutoa and in driving IF on to the punt, the accelerator jammed with the result that the lorry ran over the flap and landed in the river. All that could be se.en of it in the water was the top of the cab. Mr Richards was fortunate in being able to jump off on to the punt. Mr Peacock's men, who are engaged in dismantling the old bridge, arrived with hoisting gear and after between four and five hours work the lorry was •hauled out of the river and then towed into Shannon.

A party was held at the Kev,. Mr. Williamson's residence, Clapham St., on Wednesday evening on behalf of members of the Shannon Bible Class. There were about thirty present, a thoroughly enjoyable evening being spent in games and competitions, interspersed by vocal, musical and elocutionary* items, contributed by Misses S. Quarric, 'and V. Quarriej and Mr. McLean. There was al3o a fine exhibition of club swinging by Mr. Marriott. A motor car competition was won by Miss I. Astwood. The success of the evening was due to Mr. Porter, leader of. ■the Bible Class, Miss Allen, treasurer, and Miss Clayton, secretary. After rcjfreshments Wad been handed round, the party dispersed, all having spent a very happy evening.
