TWO YOUNG MEN FROM LEVIN.

CHARGE OF BURGLARY AT CLARK'S,. LTD. REMANDED TO APPEAR LOCALLY NEXT MONDAY. Recently it was suspected that goods were being taken from the premises of Messrs Clark's, Ltd., Levin, as certain articles could, : not be accounted for as having been sold. Police investigation becirme necessary, and the result was the discovery of circumstances pointing to a system of operating by means of a key tha,t fitted the front door. About midday on Saturday, in Wellington, Detectives Bayiis and Murray arrested Keith motor mechanic, aged 19, and William Bikihana, labourer, r;ged 24, of Levin, on a eharge of breaking and entering aud theft. The accused appealed before-Mr J. H. S.M., in the Magistrate's Court, Wellington, to-day, s when they were charged with haviog broken and entered by night the shop of Messrs - W..M. Clark, Ltd., and stolen 19 pairs of ladies' silk hose, two suits, and other goods, of a total value of £27 10s.

Chief Detective Ward asked, that the accused be remanded to appear at Levin at 11 a.m. on Monday next. ■ Mr A. J. Mazengarb, who appeared for the accused, said, that both men, had people in Lsvin and they desired to get home immediately to make arrangements for a defence. Counsel thought that bail would be obtainable in Levin, and suggested £IOO, with a similar surety. ' ";"' . The Magistrate granted a remand, and each of the accused was allowed bail of £IOO in his own recognisance, and one surety of a like amount. Senior Detective-Sergeant Quirke and Detective Russell were in Levin yesterday, making inquiries which are expected to lead to further developments.
