SHANNON SCHOOL COMMITTEE

MONTHLY MEETING. The" monthly'■meeting of the Shannon School Committee was, held last evening'. Present: Messrs Hyde (chairman), Hill Ingley, Mercer, Richards, Booker and Coatea, also ,Mr:.-White, headmaster. - ■ "••! .-'"■■■ The visiting committee reported that sundrv repairs to ;school building were . required and it was decided to have: these attended to. ~->'•"..>.' The finances of the committee were; fully' discussed and it was found unnecessary at present to ask for further. heb towards the dental clinic. The ; funds in hand would be sufficient, for "■ , Shannon 's share,' namely/ £6O. ; ■ - The secretary was instructed to •■write,, to Tokomaru" Mak'erua" and Moutoa, ' and ask them to forward their, amounts ,so" that the-whole'could be forwarded to Wellington and the subsidy'asked for. The position is : most gratifying, remarked the chairman, and it would seem now that our clinic is assured • .Mr Whit ; e reported that for the nibntlf of September the attendance had, been 282, 292/ 290, and /275. The average roll for ihe school year, which ended in September, was 321, which was 'just the number required for the school to hold its present'grade.- \ -..,. During the winteV the .children had been supplied with. 3140'clips of•- cocoa at a cost of £7 17s. \" - % '' The Committee decided to provide the annual prizes out of committee ■'■funds,' and Mr Hyde, kindly donated dhe gold medal for. the '■ dux. The attendance ; during October had been well maintained, the numbers being 279, 28/,' 296,. and 298, a roll number of 316. .■.'•■'V.
