TRAFFIC SIGNS.

LOCAL BODIES PROTESTING. An invitation, to join in a protest against two provisions of the Motor Regulations was'received by the LeVin Borough Council last evening from the Wellington City Council. One is a clause requiring local bodies to erect, traffic signs on roads crossed by railways and tramways. The other is a regulation requiring local bodies to erect signs indicating areas where speeds have to lie reduced. The'Mayor (Mr Hobson). considered that the cost of. erecting. " warningjnotices in connection witfli railway crossings should be borne by. the Department) especially as it was drawing revenue from advertisement hoardings erected on the section of line passing through the Borough. Cr; Morten sen said it was ridiculous to have to'orcat a notice at every intersection when defining the. speed limit. With regard to' the other regulation, it was not a fair thing for the Council to have to maintain railway signs. He moved that the Wellington Council's protest be supported. The motion was eeconded by Cr. Falloor: and carried.
