TO-MORROW'S RACING.

BIG FIELDS AT ffRENTHAM.

BLIMP AND COMMENDATION

FAVOURED.

(By Silken Rein)

A very popular fixture with local sportsmen, the Wellington Bacing Club's Spring Meeting, will open at Trenthani to-morrcw and conclude on Monday (Labour Day). For the first day .exceptionally large fields are the order throughout and the class of runners engaged are well up to the usual standard. From the number of acceptors, appreciable dividends will, it <s anticipated, be returned in almost every instance. The track should be in. fast order and exciting racing will result. Local patrons are well-catered for in respect of train arrangements witn the excursion fares and a number intend making the trip: Fine weather is all that will be needed to assure a successful meeting. First Hurdles Handicap. •

The meeting will open with the First Hurdles Handicap for which sixteen runners are promised. The top-weight Gaze won well at Wanganui and on that performance he will make appeal. There is some doubt as to whether Ivi will put in an appearance at Trenthani. Little has been heard of Gamecock, but Ballyfarnon came to light again at Hawkes' Bay. His time in that race was particularly good and 4 sees better than Gaze at Wanganui. Polyphemus is the right sort when at his best but that is seldom. He may be improved however, by his Wanganui win 51bs, Vexatious will be most fancied of With the latter in receipt of another 51bs, Vevatioua will be most fancied of the pair. Sir Moment was in winning form a While back, while Carinthia showed up into second place on both davs at Dunedin. 'Radiate was a winner at Gcraldine last month. Othon is very inconsistent, but he appears better suited in this branch. Lady Gay seems unable to get to the judge while Beaumont has made promises of doing so lately. Askari is suited with the Trentham course and may be the surprise. Hymgreat has had moderate success over the battens but he has not shown much promise this season. Panther is an improving runner. He was fourth at Dannevirke and then went on to Manawatu Hunt Meeting for second. Pantagruel beat Beaumont by a neck at the latter meeting and will be giving Beaumont a ditt'eience of 111 bas the result. Sneerer has no public form that would recommend him in this field. The form trio appear to be:—

Ballyfarnon

Beaumont Vexatious.

Taita Handicap,

There is a big field due to line up in the juvenile event and with very little form to work on speculators will be sorting in the dark to some extent. The form at Masterton will be of some assistance. Equitant, Duellona and Sapient finished in that order behind Roval Fiver. Duellona is not due to take his place in this field having. aO ceptcd for the Wellesley Stakes which event Equitant also claims an engagement, Head Serang and Admiral Drake were placed behind the Masterton winner when he scored at Hawkes Bay. Of the pair the former showed out to best advantage at the earlier meeting, finishing only a neck from Royal Fiver. The top-weight Royal Line won" fairly easily at Napier Park last month. Gav Ballerina with R. Reed up ran third in Australia. On thenform shown a trio that read best are:—

Royal Line Head Serang Equitant.

Wainui Handicap

After his dead-heat with Blimp at Masterton, Royal Game will claim the attention of punters in this mile jevent. The Royal Stag gelding has shown much regularity in his recent outings and is equally good over seven furlongs as a mile and a quarter. Bat- > tie Colours will be much benefitted as the result of a race while Partaga has little recent form for support. Cashier is an improving sort with good prospeels. He is consistent aud a good miler! Ohekme lacks recent public form, but King Midas should not be long in registering a win. He has quite a number of minor plaemgs lately. Rolrose is showing a return Oj. form in a third at Dunedin, but the "shorts" wi«l probably be his mission. Pangolin is returning after a short spell from public racing and Wild Pigeon's new owner will expect a good performance from his purchase. Wild Pigeon ran. a good third at Masterton. Vigilance at her best is a likely sort, while the irregular Kilmiss has been a. disappointment to follow. He is improving, though. Kilperon was unlucky in meeting Lady Desmond at Manawatu, but he may make amends here. Decoy Bird has his two Carterton thirds to recommend him while Lm Arlington would have to show improvement to win. Olympic will have but few friends. The firing line should find the following trio in the. picture:— Cashier Royal Game King Midas. Rimutaka Handicap. The field of 27 in this event will provide speculators will plenty of form •juggling. Masterton running ciedits ! Teri with a a second to Commendation, Billion a second, Imarosebud a third, Full Mark fourth, Ramesis second, King Qucx fourth, Courageois first. The Carterton meeting discloses form in Billion (first), Otaura Lass (second), Teri (second), Baskier (second), Full Mark (first), Rotowhero (second), Rory Mor (third) and Courageous (fourth). Shining Star made a bold bid at the Manawatu Hunt Meeting and he should go well in thijt

event. A six later in the day, however, will suit him better. Tanagra should win soon while the failure of Moorgaa at Masterton was a surprise. Gold Cure is partial to -Trenthani _ course, having won twice at last meeting. The race bears a very open aspect, but good performances can be expected of:—

Ten Ta&agra Courageous

Wellington Handicap.

The principal event of the opening day has drawn thirteen runners. Nuku ma'i claims an engagement at Waverley, but his movements at the time of writing are not known. Rapier will have to* show a considerable improvement on his recent, running to be able, to account for this field. At Gcraldine he finished fourth in a four horse race. Mask will be sent out a firm favourite, and should give a good account of himself. Beacon Light has little form for recommendation, while Mandane, if at his best, would be dangerous. Pink Note fresh from Dunedin success will carry the South Island money and he should make a bold bid to return their support. Black Mint finished fourth at Masterton, but should do better on this course. By winning the King Memorial at Auckland Goshawk will be much favoured. He will be ridden by J. Barry. Blimp is a sort that always has to'be taken into, calculations' and his dead-heat at Masterton will place the Gasbag representative among the best favoured division. Shining Armour's success in the Highweiglit will deserve more than ordinary consideration, while Kilperon, if reserved for this race, could give his supporters an exciting moment. David Garrie.k and Talisker, by reason of their being brackctted, will be an attractive bet to some and both have shown glimpses of form. This should be a good betting race, with most monev for

Blimp Pink, Note ; Goshawk

Wellesley Stakes

The five furlong two-year-old event will considerably add to the interest of the meeting. The absence of Supremacy is a noticeable one and though "it detracts a' little from the strength of the field, the promised appearance of Gold Tinge, who came into prominence by winning two important events in Australia, will conteract the former defection. The most recent wilier in the field is Royal Flyer, Avhile Equitant Avas placed second on Saturday last and, Prancolin second in the McLean Stakes, two days previous. First Money won the Musket Stakes while Hunting Day who ran second to Supremacy on the previous day is a likely one. Courtlike was a good third at Wanganui', but failed to show up at Masterton.' Speed Light winner of the Debutant a Stakes has not been seen out since that win. His Wanganui performance was a good one and suggest--ive of good things ahead. Clever has had to be satisfied with small money on most of his outings, but he has shown consistency. The Hunting Song representative .Coon Song was expected to make a good showing in his outings, but so far has failed to justify support. The trio that appear to have best recommendations are Gold Tinge Prancolin Royal Flyer. , Shorts Handicap. There is very little recent winning form among the class horses engaged in this event. Commendation's return at Masterton will make him a firm favourite in the event of his going to the post. Reremoana was given a gallop at Wanganui, where on the opening day he finished fourth. Joy King will need to show a marked improvement t.) win.i Merrv Damon, Lipsol and Kaiti beat him at Napier Park. Crown Area will need a race, while Booster was given an outing at Dunedin. The Hawk had a run at Auckland recently, but he does not vet appear to be in winning form. Bright Glow is the right sort if he is ready. Benzora and White Fang are showing a return of form,, the former running third and second in two runs at Auckland and White Fang third behind Branson and Goshawk. Lysander was fourth at Auckland. Duke Ab- : bey has not had an outing lately, butArrow Lad is in good form. Helotis ] Avill have friends from his Wanganui win. Moa Bird may be dangc rous, while Keddar looks -possible on his run : ning at the River City. The same meeting saw Consent a Avinner and lie with Miss Pat should be able to keep Aere's end up. Solrose will have few supporters from the South, while the local stables are represented in Kilbronsvth. 1£ anything like he was at his best, Kilbrousyth could keep this field galloping. It should be a good race between Commendation Benzora Arrow Lad. October Handicap. This is the usual Trentham last race puzzle and the size of the field should be productive of an appreciable dividend. Recent winning form is shown in » number of runners, Desert Lad, Callanmore, Royal Lineage, Millais Moutoa Treasury, Lucky Light, Kilightlike, Shining Star, Veronese, Grey Mist, Arrow Boy and Tcheka. The trio that possess good chances if the. position draw at the barrier is favonrabel are Shining Star iMilMs Callanmore With Moutoa Treasury likely to be prominent.
