WIROKINO RIDING.
NEW COUNCILLOR WELCOMED.
Cr. A. J. Gimblctt, who was elected to till the vacancy on the HovowlienuaCounty Council caused by the retirement of Mr A. McLeavey, one of the lepresentntives of the Wiroldno Riding, took his seat on Saturday, and was welcomed by the- Chairman (Mr G. A. Monk) and Councillors. . The chairman said that Cr. Gimblett, as a ratepayer, had taken a consider-, able interest in County affairs, and he could not come to a better place than the Council. Chamber for enlightenment. The chairman believed that, a ratepayer, by taking au intelligent interest'in County matters, to some extent qualified himself for such a position, and did not come to the table altogether as a novice. A man. who ■vas prepared to criticise usually took die opportunity of making some investigation He thought that Cr. Gimblett would find that he had come on to a Council composed of really hard working members, who had a good grip of the business. Alth.ough they might make mistakes, the new councillor would notice the existence of one thing in particular, and that was that it was the earnest desire of theCouncil to do its very best in the interests of the ratepayers. He trusted that Cr. Gimblett would have a very in tore..ting and pleasant time at the Council table. Cr. Catlev, in adding a few words, of welcome, said he hoped that Cr. Gimblett and the rest of the councillors would work harmoniously together, and that their efforts would be of benefit to those whom they represented. Cr. Ryder said lie felt that Cr. Gimblett would find that he was associated with a body of men - who took an interest in their work. Cr. Gimblett thanked the chairman and councillors for their veiy cordial welcome. He stated that he had taken au interest in County matters for quite a long time, and a little more so. of late than in former years, llis object in coming to the Council table was to try to do his share. He had beeu to some extent among the “growlers,” but he wished to show that he was willing to come along and do his part. Probably he would make mistakes, but he hoped that, at the end of the short term which he had to serve on the Council, he would understand a good deal more about County matters than lie did at present and that he would be on the Council for a longer term.
