DENTAL CLINIC TO BE ESTABLISHED.

NURSE ALLOTTED FOR LEVIN AND SHANNON. A telegram was received by Mr J. Linklatcr, MjP., yesterday from-Hnr ' Minister for Public Health (the Hon. J. A. Young) stating that he had conferred with his Department and it had approved of the appointment of a number of new dental nurses throughout the Dominion. He was pleased to be able to advise Mr Linklater that one of these would be stationed at Levin. The new nurses would commence work at the beginning of next year. The decision will give a good deal of satisfaction to the School Committees interested. It will be remembered thatsome months ago a deputation represening the Levin, Shannon, Koputaroa, Oliau, and Manakau committees waited on the Minister for Health and urged that a dental nurse be appointed, as a complement to the voluntary scheme that has been for a number of years. The- proposal was that the nurse should be located at Levin with clinics at Shannon and Levin. Strong arguments in favour of this were adduced by the deputation, though the Minister" did not give much encouragement that, the request would be granted. Mr Linklater has kept in touch with the matter in the meantime and has lost no opportunity of presenting the district's claims in a favourable light, with the result that the Department has agreed to the establishment of the clinic. Within certain age limits the dental nurse gives free dental treatment to the scholars attending the public schools, and there is no doubt that, when the scheme is in full operation, the result will be the gradual improvement of the dental health of the children of the district.
