Two young children of Mr and Mrs A. Needham, of Botanical road, Palmerston North, will have cause to remember the experience that befell them yesterday. They were crossing a paddock in which was a cow that had had its calf but recently taken away and was apparently in an excited condition. The animal followed the children and knocked one down. Screams of neighbours who witnessed the indent brought Mr Needham to. his door. Realising that quick action was necessar'v to save his children, Mr Needham seized a rifle and shot.the cow dead as it was.in the act of charging the other child.

Mr A. Warbrick, chief Government guide at Eotorua, has completed arrangements to take Lady Alice Fergusson and a party through the Urcwera Country early next month. Her Excellency will leave Eotorua on October ?nd for Euatahuna, where she proposes to spend two or three days lief ore going on to Waikaremoana. Cars will convey the party a portion of the journey, and horses will be utilised beyond Euutahuna. The trip is expected to extend over 10 days, .Napier being reached by car from Lake House about October 12. Many years ago Her Excellency's father, Lord Glasgow, attempted this journey, but was unable to get beyond Euatahuna. Lady Alice Fergussoii hopes to complete it, and with a little good fortune in the weather should have a very interesting trip. '
