OBITUARY.

MRS CATHERINE McKEGG,

After ailing for some months, there passed "away at her home in Saxton Street, Levin, early Sunday morning, one of the Dominion's pioneers, and a notable mother of colonists, in the person of Mrs Catherine McKegg, relict of the late Mr Amos'McKegg, in her 84th year; The deceased who was a native of Perthshire, Scotland, arrived at Port Chalmers by the sailing ship Storm Cloud on May Ist, 1860, and for 40' years she resided (.at the White House Hotel at Henley, on the Taieri River, Otago. Her husband predeceased her by 27 years, and for the last 20 years she resided in Levin. The Me Mrs McKegg was highly respected both in Levin and in Otago, and through her old associations with that province she was a member of the Earlv Settlers 7 Association in Dunedin. " She reared a large family, all of whom were born at Henley, and the surviving members are: Mr Amos McKegg, Wan a lea. Hotel, Lake Wanaka; Mr° William McKegg, Palmerston North- Mrs Milne, Creenmead.ws; Mrs J. Mcthven, Timaru; Mrs W. W. Shcnnan, Trentham; Mrs S. J. Easton, Foxton; Misses Margaret and Helen McKegg, Saxton Street, Levin. There are" also 20 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. The interment, which is private, is taking place- this afternoon.
