KING IN KILT AND PLAID.
VETERAN GIANT. (Sun Special.) LONDON, Sept. 22. Thirty thousand Highlanders acclaimed the King in the vast natural amphitheatre at the opening of the Braenmr Games. His Majesty wore a Balmoral-bonnet-and kilt, and a hunting Stuart inrt-au plaid thrown over his shoulder. The Queen and the Duke and Duchess of York were present, as was also Mr Rudyard Kipling, who wjw. the guest of tiie King at Balmoral Castle. They witnessed an inspiring march of the clansmen. Picturesque sturdy Balmoral Highlanders and “King’s men,” with their Lochaber axes gleaming in the sun as they lay aslant on the broad shoulders, led the parade, sounding the “Pibroch of Donald Dhu” on the bag Pipes- . __ _
Among them was Alexander Macintosh, a white-bearded giant of 78, who has marched with the clansmen of Braemar for 62 years, before three monarehs. He tossed the caber successfully until he was 71, and is known throughout- the Highlands as “Sandy.”
