A story of an incident- illustrating the tenacity of purpose of a seagull is related from Oranga (says the Norths Auckland Times). The bird evidently espied something presumed to be au egg, and at this dainty morsel swooped down, took the small object in its- beak and, flying aloft, dropped it to earth. But instead of breaking the “egg” rebounded from the earth several times and came to rest.. However, the bird, nothing daunted, but to judge from its cries, somewhat puzzled, swooped dowif upwards of a dozen times, each time with a like result. At thin stage an onlooker who had been regarding the whole performance with interest, decided to investigate and found that the object of the bird’s attention was a small white rubber ball which had been left in the paddock by children. Perhaps the bird was playing the children’s game of bouncing ball!
