\ A little- dry mustard rubbed on the hands will remove the smell of fish from them.
If your fingers are fruit-stained, soap vour hands thoroughly before you let any water touch them. If you wet them first you will find it most difficult to get them clean. Before using a milk saucepan, it should be thoroughly rinsed with cold water and greased round the top edges. This prevents the milk boiling over and. the saucepan burning. Cakes will be considerably lightened if the whites of eggs are beaten up separately from the yolks. If some grease has been upset on the kitchen floor, sprinkle some powdered Lath brick upon it and leave it for a time. Then scrub it with hot soda water and all traces will be removed. Use oatmeal for cleaning white paint in bedrooms. ( Dip a damp cloth in the oatmeal and rub the paint over with this; then wipe with a clean duster. Oatmeal is especially effective for removing finger-marks from doors. Save your egg-shells and use them to .clean bottles and cruets. Crush them up very finely, partly Jill the bottles with them, and pour in soapsuds.
A quick and easy way of cleaning paint is, to have two pails of water — one cold, to which a tablespoonful of ammonia has been added, and one hot, with a tittle ammonia and soap powder in it. With a soft flannel wash the paint with the* soapy water, then rinse j with cold, using a wash-leather wrung | fairly dry. Paint washed like this \ dries with a good polish. When boiling a pudding in a cloth, put an old ,plate at the bottom of the saucepan to prevent the pudding from sticking to the pan. To make a drawer run smoothly and open easily, rub'the runners with a lump of heated beeswax. Paint marks on glass or mirrors can be easily removed by*'rubbing with a* paste of whitening and ammonia, thin-, ned .with water to the consistency of cream. Leave the paste on, and, when dry, wash off with soap and warm water.
Tiles should be' cleaned by wiping with a cloth wrung out of soapy water. Much scrubbing and use of water will in time loosen the cement of tiling and dislodge the> sections'. To emovc blacklead murks from carpets, make a thick paste of fuller's eartli and water, to which add a little am;.:onia, and apply it to the marks. Allow it to dry thoroughly, then brush off carefully.with a clean hard brush. If the first application is not successful repeat the process. The mixture will not harm the carpet. To prevent stains on-China, rinse the cups in clean, cold water, and Afterwards wash tliem in hot water. By rinsing the articles in cold water you prevent the stains from the tannin, either tea or coffee, becoming fixed. To clarify dripping put it into a bowl and pour on boiling water to cover. Stir well and allow to cool. The purified dripping will then form a solid cake on the top which should be taken off and wiped dry, when it will be ready for use.
