ADVANCE OF INDUSTRY
U' THE NEED FOR SCIENCE.
"The dairy producers of New Zealand have not much to leani of the science of the industry," said Mr A. J. Mills, chairman of a large Toolcy Street firm of distributors, in a recent reference to his impressions after spending several weeks in visiting representative factories in the Waikato and Taranaki. Mr Mills said lie Lad secured an insight into the progress which had been made since his visit 18 years ago. New Zealand dairy produce had achieved a reputation in Groat Britain which was ; worth guarding, and it was to be hoped increasing attention would be paid to the necessity for maintaining the high standard; Producers shoulo not be content to rest on their laurels, as the saturation-point hail not been rcaehed and the demand would be found for increased output. "The producers are beginning to appreciate the value of a close * understanding with the distributor," added Mr Mills. '' There is a general desire for eo-operation, and" I have been struck very forcibly by the fact that after freight and other charges are added New Zealand butter is available in England at prices differing little from those ruling in the Dominion. This shows the distributors at the other end are doing the work very economically for the producer. " Mr Mills will visit factories in the Wairarapa, and will make a tour of the South Island before returning to England.
