THE DAIRY INDUSTRY.
SUBSTANTIAL INCREASE IN PRO-
DUCTION.
BRIGHT PROSPECTS FOR SEASON.
AUGUST PAY-OUT.
The inanufactuiing returns at the Levin Dairy Company up to the end of August of this year, makes this season, so far as it has extended, go down on •ecord as the most productive. yet experienced at the local factory. Ldst season was considered to have a particularly good opening and the butterrat' supplied during August of that year .vas well above the average, but for the corresponding period of this year the yield shows a 56 per cent, increase. This increase is a very appreciable one Mid is substantiated in the amount of ■ utter manufactured. From June Ist .o end of August, 1927, 83 tons was made at the factory, 21 tons better ;lian the previous year, , but the-figures or that period of this year is 150 tons, fhe daily output at the present time is approximately 130 boxes as compared ■vith 100 last season. This , prolific ,field at the early part of' the season s attributed to' the fact that farmers lave fully realised the advantages of saving cows come to profit early, while he adoption of a proper system of top(ressing, favoured by the mild'winter, has brought' about a quicker growth n the grass, resulting in the-individual cierds showing, a bigger ' return- 'When the season is'at-its best.
, For the butterfat supplied during ,ihe month of August the. Levin Dairy ■Company are advancing Is 7d pdr lb for superfine grade. This amount is Id in advance, of the ..August payout, for the past two years. The market at the present time is', firm but, as'.the new season’s produce arrives at London a reduction in the quotations can be. expected. The Levin! first shipment of. butter left about a wqek ago and is expected to arrive about..the middle of next month, at" whielL/time an easing up of the market is to be anticipated. Present indications, however, point to a very prosperous year and as there'does not yet appear signs of a substantial drop in the prices of butter farmers are confidently looking forward to receiving the due reward of their labours.
