PEAK PRICE FOR BEEF.
KEEN DEMAND AT WESTFIELD.
"The 'hott-st' prices made in Auckland for years," was the comment of the manager of a stock and station firm last week upon the values realised at the Westfield stock sale for choice ox beef. When the market touched 40s per 1001 b last week, it was regarded as establishing a local record for recent years, but there was a further advance of 20 per cent, to 48s. For many months past the sheep and cattle fanner has watched with keen Interest the consolidation of the Avorld market for ait classes of meat, but beef has been outstripping tire rest. In view of realisations, it is interesting, to note that the "requisition" priee for beef during the Avar Avas 45si While prices even higher than 48s have been paid at Addington comparatively recently, on account of the local demand being sharpened by the scarcity of beef in Canterbury, Auckland's new local record for a" period of years is confirmation of the robustness of the market. f
