HOROWHENUA COUNTY PATRIOTIC ASSN.
A meeting of the management committee of the Horowhemia County Patriotic Association was held on Wednesday, August 29th, there being present: Megsi-3 P. W. Goldsmith (president), J. M. Richards, W. E. Kilsby, G. D. Hamilton, G. Catley, and T Clifford. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs H. Nicholson, T. Fraser, A. McLcavey, C. S. Keedwell, and K. G. McLean.
A letter was received from a returned* soldier thanking the Association for assistance given to tide him over a critical time. The War Funds Council, Wellington, furnished reports of operations up to August 4th. There were two notices of unsatisfactory cases —one from Auckland and the other from Canterbury. Notification was received from the Public Trust Office with regard to investments. The sum of £4OO has been ro-invosted at H per cent. The Audit Department acknowledged receipt of the Association's balancesheet to March, 1928.
Various sums of money were receiv cd as instalments on. soldiers' loans.
An application for £SO wherewith to pav rent was declined. The committee approved the action of the secretary in granting an extension of time for payment of instalments in one case.
An application for a loan of £SO to pay debts was declined. Approval was given to the action of the executive in granting £lO to assist a man in moving his family to the South Island, where he had secured work, the case being considered a deserving one. .
