THIRD GRADE.
SHANNON 11 v. FOXTON 6.
The above game played on the Shannon Domain was decidedly interesting to watch. With the wind and sun against them, Shannon went to the attack, but though they kept up the pressure, were unable to cross their opponents' line. As the result of some erratic passing in Shannon's 25, Easton, Foxton's winger, intercepted and scored, this being soon after followed by the same player again intercepting a pass over the half way line and racing down the field to register his second try. Both tries were unconverted. With playing conditions in their favour in the second half. Shannon attacked hard. A good run by McEvven ended in Hemmingsen opening Shannon's account with an unconverted try. Shannon eontinued to attack, but an obvious off-side was missed by the referee and JPoxton returned to'Shannon V line, the
latter having to force. A good passing movement by N. and B. Holden and McEwen brought temporary relief, but Foxton quickly returned to the attack. A pretty piece of passing by Holden brothers, Saxon and Tippler brought play up the field, ending in-the latter scoring at the corner Hag. McEwen converted with a good kick. Shortly before the call of time, B. Holden, receiving the ball from a scrum, ran through the opposition to score between the posts. The kick at goal was a failure. Mr McLeavey controlled the game. By their win Shannon are now the winners of the thirds championship at ■the northern end. They will now play Otaki, the winners of the Southern end.
