SENIORS. WERAROA DEFEAT-SHANNON. The exhibition- given by Shannon against Weraroa at the. Levin Domain ,on Saturday was farcical to say the least, while the display of Weraroa was also far below senior form. Both teams'played substitutes, Weraroa filing . out with thirteen players, two others making up their quota after the. game had been in progress a few minutes. From, the commencement Weraroa pressed their claim, and practically throughout the game they had Shan non on the defensive, beating the latter in all departments of the game Shannon gave a sorry exhibition of de fence, particularly their backs, who al lowed the Weraroa back division to sim ply run over them. . ... Early in the game J. Broughton drib bled through to Roberts, who picked up, but was collared, and.dropping the ball, J. Broughton picked it- up, and cutting in, scored. McLennan failed with the kick. This was almost immedjately. followed by a passing movement between J. Broughton, Tatana and R Broughton, the latter registering Weraroa's second try, which Warren con verted. From a free kick to Weraroa Graham had a shot at goal. The Red forwards then launched an attack, carrying play into Weraroa territory, but Warren, getting possession, broke through the attackers, reaching the half-way line before he was collared Following a scrum McKenzie, after beating several opponents before being collared, was halted in'a likely move- ; ment by a forward pass. With play near Weraroa's 25 line a free kick to j ShannorFenabled Hurst to' open theii scoring account. Weraroa 8, Shannon 3. ' . - ■"..
On the ball' going into 'play Roberts got possession and passed to "VVhy.te, but D. McDonald intercepted it, and cleverly evading the opposition, raced down the field and scored. He also added the extra points. Weraroa continued the attack in Shannon's territory, a free kick to them enabling Tatana to add still another three points to their total; to be followed by another free kick to them, which was converted by McLennan. Weraroa continued to press, but a cross kick by Warren allowed Roberts to mark. Following up the kick, Reds led by Williams, carried play to the other end of the field and from a scramble on the line Hurst got over. He took the kick himself, but failed to make the ball rise from the ground. The spell ended Weraroa 19. Shannon 6.
On changing over, play hovered around the half-way line for some time, a Weraroa forward rush compelling Roberts to force down. The Weraroa team launched several attacks at the Red line and in one Brown dribbled over but lost the ball, a Shannon player forcing down. From the kick out Rangi Broughton and McLennan dribbled back, but-Roberts and Marsh carried play to centre again. Rangi Broughton and Palmer led a dribbling "rush to, the Red 25, where J. Broughton got possession and raced down the Imp, passing to D. McDonald who scored, McLennan converting. Weraroa 24, Shannon 6. Joe Broughton, taking the ball trom a kick in field from Walls, set off and in a fine run covered nearly the full length of the field .before being over hauled by McKenzie. Marsh was then responsible for the Reds carrying play back to Weraroa V 25, but a Weraroa forward rush, headed by Tatana, Palmer and D. McDonald, returned play to half-way where J. Broughton, getting possession sprinted for the line to score under" the posts, an easy shot at goal being missed. A very poor game ended in favour of Weraroa by 27 to 6. Mr McLeavey controlled the game. During the first spell W. Robbit (Shannon) broke two ribs and 'had tc retire. He,was replaced by the veteran Johanson.
JUKIORS,

The above was a very patehy though hard.game. For the first ten minutes Shannon played one man short. Foxton kicked off, Reds immediately attacking and compelling Foxton to force down.
