WELLINGTON-MANAWATU

ROUTE

The report of the Main Highways Board on work done during May contains the following references to the district between Wellington and Palmerston North:-

Auckland-Wellington via Taranaki.— Johnsonville Town Board: Twenty-nine chains of paving in bituminous concrete has been completed. Hutt Coun-ty-Paremata to Horokiwi Valley: Ten chains of widening between Paremata and Pahautauui and 19 chains between Pahautanui and Horokiwi Valley have been completed. Hutt County-Paekaka-riki to Waikanae: The small bridge over the Mangatuku Stream has been widened to a width of 20ft, Levin-Palnierston North via Shannon. —Kara Stream bridge: The concrete abutments and piers for this bridge have been completed, and the steel joists have .been placed in position, kocble's bridge: The construction of this bridge and the formation of the approaches are in hand. Foxton-Shannon. —Manawatu River bridge: The construction of this bridge has been completed except for painting. The formation of both approaches to the bridge are nearing completion.
