Procter (Hui Mai), S. Hooper (Weraroa), W. S. Joyce (Weraroa), Les. McDonald (Wanderers), W. Phillips (Referees), J. W. Rimmer (treasurer), and J. Casey (secretary). The secretary reported that he h'&d received advice that, as requested by the Council, the Miranui ground had been put in order. A letter was received from Mr T. Dalzell, thanking the Council, on behalf of Mrs Dalzell and family, for floral emblems and message of sympathy in their recent bereavement. PLAYER DISQUALIFIED FOR TWELVE MONTHS.

Mr D. M. T. Cross, secretary of the Mangatuku Club, wrote under date May 29th, with reference to D. Bailey, a member of that club, having been ordered off on Saturday, May 26th, at Manakau, in the match against Hui Mai juniors. The club regretted the occurrence very much, and wished to express .sympathy with the referee. In a subsequent communication the secretary acknowledged receipt of notification'of the suspension of Bailey. The chairman said the offence was a very serious one, and, as the player wanted to take action against the referee after being ordered off, it was time for the Council to take action against the player. Mr Procter moved and Mr Hooper seconded that Bailey be suspended till the end of the season. The chairman said that this proposal was too lenient in the case of a player who had wanted to strike the referee. The motion was withdrawn, and the chairman substituted one disqualifying Bailey for 12 months from the date of the offence. This was seconded by Mr Phillips and carried.

SUSPENSION POR TWO SATUR DAYS.

A report was received from Mr E. Bevan, referee in the junior match, Hui Mai v. Paraparaumu, played on Saturday last at Paraparaumu, that during the first spell he ordered off W. J. Ilurren, a Paraparaumu player, for striking a Hui Mai player. With reference to this matter, a letter was received from Mr F. C. Middleton, secretary of the Paraparaumu Club, stating tliat Hurren admitted his guilt under provocation. He had kicked the. ball and was afterwards tackled, and on the spur of the moment he struck his opponent. After the game he expressed his regret to the secretary. The writer expressed the hope that the committee would view the case as lightly as possible. A letter addressed by Hurren to the secretary of his club was enclosed, in which he expressed his regret for the incident. He admitted that he was wrong, but added that lie had acted on the spur of the moment. As the club had always had a good reputation, he hoped that he had not injured it in any way. On the motion of Mr Joyce, seconded by Mr McDonald, it was resolved that Hurren be suspended for two playing Saturdays. The question of a protest in the above match was mentioned in the secretary ’s letter. This referred to the conversion of a try, it being stated that the ball was placed and kicked from right on the touch-line. The secretary stated that, although the facts were correct, his committee did not desire any further action taken.

PROTEST ON GROUND OF OVERTIME.

The Maungatuku Club forwarded a protest against , the match played against Weraroa Junior on Saturday, at Weraroa, on the ground that overtime was played, resulting in the defeat of Maungatuku. The letter went on to state that the referee had drawn attention to the prolonging of the second half. The game was begun at 2.55 p.m., and finished at 4.55 p.in. The time off for injured players did not exceed eight minutes. The club understood that the referee appointed as onb .of 'the 'timekeepers* the present coach of the Weraroa team.

Mr Hooper stated that he had been asked to keep the time, which was cheeked by Mr O’Connor. The speaker was back in tlfe town at 4.55 p.m., and the secretary of the protesting club did not then state any objection to him as to the time played.

The chairman stated that the rules provided that the referee’s decision as to time must be final. The committee should obtain information on the matter from the referee, Mr K. Sands. He moved that the protest be held’ over until the referee had been interviewed. The motion, which was seconded by Mr Procter, was carried. APPLICATION FOR INSURANCE OUT OF ORDER. Wilson McGregor, Koputaroa, wrote applying for insurance benefit, stating ' that in playing for Wanderers 111 against Shannon, at Shannon, he sustained a fracture of the small bone of the leg. He had been incapacitated for over a month, but might be able to play in three or four weeks. As the applicant was not covered by insurance, and the, application was otherwise out of order, no doctor’s certificate accompanying it, the request was not granted. WRONG JERSEYS WORN. , It was reported that three Weraroa! players in the match at Manakau on I Saturday were not wearing the club I jerseys.—The club was fined 7s fid, be- J

ing at the rate of 2s 6d for each player wrongly attired. . ARRANGEMENTS FOR REP. MATCHES. Greaves, secretary of the Rangitikei Rugby Sub-Union, wrote stating that, at a meeting of the management committee on May 30th, the date suggested by Horowhenua for the Bebbington Shield match, to be played at Foxton, was accepted. The third grade fixture was in the hands of the Fixture Committee, and the Horowhenua Council would be advised when the date was agreed upon. The* communication was received. -The committee resolved that it would not bear any expense for the training of players prior to >the .ManawatuHorovvhenua games, owing to the state of the finances. TWO CLEAR SATURDAYS AND A POSSIBLE THIRD. Action in the direction of suspending certain competition fixtures for the convenience of representative matches was taken at the meeting of the management committee of the Horowhenua Rugby District Council last evening, when the president (Mr W. Hannan) moved, in accordance with notice, that no club games be played on June 23rd and July 7tli, and that games be postponed once only for any further Bebbington Shield on other rep. match. The first of the dates named is that of the Horowhenua-Manawatu match at Shannon, and the other is that of the Bebbington Shield fixture, Rangitikei v. Horowhenua, at Foxton.
