ABBE'S PREDICTIONS

WHAT YEAR WILL BRING.

Abbe Moreaux, world-famous meteorologist, director of the Bourges Observatory, France, says:— It cannot be doubted that there is a relation between the state of activity on the great central globe, the sun, and the weather on tjae earth. What one needs to know is: What are the rep'crcussions? The sun in recent years has passed through a "crisis w'hieh will come to, an end a few months from now. From 1928 we shall see the' number . of cyclones, typhoons, and even shipwrecks diminish It is even probable that wo shall record fewer destructive earthquakes. As the sun's furnace calms down our seasons will become regular. This fact will be especially perceptible in 1931. The year 1928 will be a transition time "between the two states. There will be fewer 'rainy days, probably. less abundant precipitation, warmer sunir mors, with more sunny days, a _ tendency to longer and more wintry winters. . ■ ':• In short there'will be a-gradual return to what one may call a normal regime. Do .not ask me more- than this. In the present, state of science nobody excepting the Nostra'damuses and charlatans can give us a more precise forecast. ' -? ~ ■ ■ . Since a few -years ago meteorology • has entered a fluid which promises to be fruitful, but the study will take time, and the crops will be meagre. Who is to blame?

If, during the last twenty years, men had been willing to work together and had provided meteorology with the money they had spent on the war it is likely that we should be able to . forecast the weather by now. When will humanity, still so barbarous and sordid,, recognise its own interests? Be assured, it will not ,be in the year 1928 that mankind will reach the age of reason!
