School team by 12 . points , to nil. SEVEN-A-SIDE TOURNEY. The seven-a-side Rugby tourney held at Palmerston North on Monday .provided enthusiasts with a good day’s sport. Eighty-seven teams in all entered for the four sections, senior, junp • ior, third grade and? primary sehool/5. Of this number Shannon entered senior, junior and third grade teams and Miranui two teams in the juniors, but , their A team defaulted in the first : round. Shannon’s senior team lost inthe first round to -Oriental A 21 to. 3, the latter team winning the filial by defeating Kia Toa 3 to nil, thus winning the Thompsofi-Payne Cup. The- juniors had a bye in the first round but were defeated in the «econd round by Bunnythorpe by 14 to 3. The winners of this section were St. Patrick’s B. team, who defeated Bunnythorpe by 11 to nil, In the third grade Shannon drew a bye in the first round, defeated Feild- ( ing by 11 to svin5 v in the Second round, but lost to Feilding High school in the next round by 8 to 3. The final was won by Old Bovs A who defeated Woodville 6 to nil. Miranui B team beat Feilding Old Boys 12 to 3 in the first round. In the' second round .they won from West End Old Boys 9 to nil. In the next round they lost to High School A 11 to nil. Last year this Club won the Rogers’ Cup. The following will represent Shannon seniors against Wanderers at Levin on Saturday: —Marsh, Whyte, Roberts, Robbie, McKenzie, Mitchell, Walls, L. Dalzell,. N. Dalzell, Moody, Hirst, K. Dalzell, Satherley, A. Williams, Robbie. Emergencies: Cole and I Williams. The team will leave for, Levin by the Napier express, which leaves Shannon at 1.40 p.m.

The Levin Wanderers Football Club lent a third grade team to the seven-a-side tournament at Dannevirke yesterday, with the result that they- wen L he ’ Carnaby Shield—a creditable ichievoment, as there were eight teams engaged in the contest. ALL BLACKS BEATEN. TRY AND POTTED GOAL TO A TRY Capetown, June; 2. New Zealand met one of the strongest sides they have to fgee outside the Tests when they played the Western Province Combined town team, and after a game full of thrills,' lost by 7 points to 3. ; Each side scored a try, and the Africans also potted a goal. The match took place on the Newlands Ground, which is in good condition, and the attendance numbered 25,000. The All Blacks had to play against a strong wind in the first half, but despite this scored first. t The Province men’s strategy was to continually attack by a succession of clever and deadly accurate line kicks which under the rules as played in South Africa continually forced the defenders back. The keynote to the local side’s success was that they beat the New Zealand forwards for possession in scrums three times to one.
