SHANNON AMATEUR ATHLETIC AND CYCLING CLUB.
ANNUAL MEETING.
The above meeting was held in the Council Chambers last evening. The president (Mr B. Brann), presided over a small .attendance of members.
The balance sheet presented showed a loss of £26 0s 3d t on the sports meeting held on March 3rd, leaving a credit balance at the bank to date of £97 Is 10d. PRESIDENT'S REPORT.
The president 'in his report stated that the club had held one sports meeting during the year which, through no particular fault of the committee, was* not a financial success, as shown by the balance sheet. A great deal of improvement has been made to the track at small expense to the club but, as usual, at a good deal of sacrifice to the leisure of' various members. In this connection he congratulated their track organiser Mr Jas Curran, and on behalf of the club he wished to extend the hearty thanks of members for the time he -has given and the work he has put in. Referring to the loss occasioned by the sports meeting, he suggested to the committee and members that they should endeavour by street stall or by other means, to recover the £26 lost at the last sports meeting. It would appear in the light of their last experience, to be unwise to enter upon another sports meeting and finance it from the-moneys raised by the carnival for track improvements. ELECTION OF OFFICERS.
The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—Patron, Mr B. Brann; president, Mr E. Downes; vicepresident, Mr W. Radford; secretary, Mr T. Kohika; assistant secretary, Mr J. T. Bovis; treasurer, Mr H. V. Hudson; auditor, Mr F. ThuVston; management committee, Messrs' T. King, D. McLaggan, E. Sands, L. Satherley, A. Reid, K. S. Henry, A. Coates, W. Christian, W. Olsen, Jas. Curran, jun., A. T. White, Jas. Curran sen., H. Taylor and Dr. Mackereth. GENERAL.
A notice of motion by Mr Downes given at a previous meeting "That the resolution authorising a committee to expend the club's .credit balance on tar-sealing the cycle track at the Domain be rescinded" was dealt with. In speaking to the motion he said he would go further and recommend that the balance in hand be placed in a bank on fixed deposit. He had two reasons for moving the motion. Firstly, there was not sufficient money to do permanent work; and secondly, the funds were dwindling away, whereas if the money was placed on fixed deposit it would be interest bearing and would be put out of reach until they can do something of a permanent nature. After a short discussion the resolution was rescinded. It was resolved to place £9O in the bank at fixed deposit for twelve months.
Messrs McLaggan and Sands were appointed to represent the club at the conference between representatives of the Borough Council and sports bodies to consider improving the lighting of the Domain.
A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the retiring officials. A committee was set up consisting of the President, Secretary and treasurer with power to call on other members for assistance to conduct street stalls and competitions to raise funds for the club.
