"THE MAGICIAN" ON SATURDAY
"The Magician," which will have its first showing at the Maoriland Theatre on Saturday, is the first Rex Ingram production for Metro-Goldwyn Mayer since his widely discussed and highly successful screen version of Blasco Ibanez' "Mare Nostrum." The ' story of the new picture is that of a girl caught between the forces of a Magician, whom she is unable to resist, and the love for a young surgeon who has saved her from being a helpless cripple by performing a delicate operation on her spine. Paul Wegener, noted German character actor, has the title role. Ivan Petrovich, a young Serbian actor, plays opposite Miss Terry and Firmin Gemier, the famous French actor and stage director, enacts a most important character part. The entire production was made in Europe on the original locations described by the author in his book. The Latin Quarter of Paris, the Grand Boulevards, the Cathedral of Notre Dame, Monte Carlo, and the interior of the gambling rooms of the Casino, the famous towers of f Switzerland and many other places of : historical and pictorial interest in France, Italy and Switzerland were utilised as backgrounds for "The Magician." "THE TIMID TERROR." From a shrinking violet to a devil-may-care fellow, is the change that takes place in the hero of "The Timid Terror," an F. 0.8. production which is coming to the local theatre on Monday. George O 'Hara plays the part of ! the young man, who is completely intimidated by his job, his business associates and most of all —by the girl he loves. After a particularly bad attack of fear, George in desperation decides on a reckless, bold attitude, and hand in hand with this change comes j success in all his undertakings. The story is one round of 'laughs, generously interspersed with romance and novel thrills.
