DISPOSAL OF OLD MANAWATU BRIDGE.

REPLY AWAITED FROM M.C.C.

The question of the disposal of the old Manawatu bridge, near Shannon, was referred to by Cr. Whyte at the meeting of /the. Horowhenua County Council on Saturday, when he mentioned that the matter had been referred to the County Clerk, to take up with the Manawatu County Council. So far no reply had been received to this Council’s request for consent to the calling of tenders for the dismantling and purchase of the structure. Cr. Ryder asked who would bear the cost of dismantling, and the chairman replied that he presumed that this Council would do so as the controlling body. They had a prospective buyer for a portion'of the bridge. The best thing they could do would be to sell it. The idea now was to dismantle it and asw for permission to stack it in the Public Works yard at Shannon.
