McLEAVEY ROAD RAILWAY CROSSING.

QUESTION OF IMPROVEMENT REFERRED TO QOUNTY j WORKS COMMITTEE.

A letter was received by the County Council on Saturday from the Ohau branch of the Farmers' Union, containing a resolution drawing the attention of the Council to the dangerous nature of the McLeavey Road railway crossing, (the scene of a double fatality two months ago), and urging the Council to ask the Railway Department to assist in the erection of an overhead bridge. ' The chairman said he had not .taken particular notice of the crossing. The question of whether the crossing twas sufficiently dangerous to justify the Council in spending two or three hundred pounds was a matter for consideration. Most railway crossings were dangerous in their present condition. He moved that'the matter be referred to the Works Committee for a report. The motion was seconded by Cr. Ryder.

Cr. Kilsby suggested that the Railway Department be consulted as to assistance in the matter of improving the crossing. The chairman stated that there were a number of difficulties connected with the position # in regard to an overhead bridge, which would require inclined approaches. Cr. Ryder said the Works Committee would fully consider the subject. The motion was carried.
