The great increase in the sale of motor-cars in New Zealand and Ausitralia last year has placed the Dominion and the Commonwealth secjond and third respectively, to the United States, in proportion of motorcars to population. United States ihas one to every 5.1 persons, Now. i Zealand one to every 10.7, and’ AusItralia one to 13.4 persons.

During 1927, the most rapid rate, of increase was in South Africa,, ’where the operation of automobiles increased by 27 per cent. Great Britain increased 25 per cent. Australia, and New. Zealand, which are grouped, in the statistics, were third with an in: crease of 22 per cent. The. increasein the United States was only 5.5 per ;cent., or less than half the gain of theprevious year. The “saturation” point has now been reached in the United States, which has 22,400,0.0.0* jof the 29,600,000 motor vehicles- in juse in the world.
