annual meeting
The annual meeting of the Shannon Women’s Institute was held on Wednesday afternoon when Mrs Butt presided over a large gathering. After hearing the report of the previous meeting the president read a lengthy report on the year’s work. The treasurer then read a statement showing that £22 5s had been paid off the piano to date, and the present balance in the Bank, including £lO 9s 2d benevolent, fund, was £lB 17s 6d. This splendid position was most satisfactory to the meeting and the report was received with applause. The secretary read correspondence from England—to be published in our next issue—and the ballot proceaure was again explained. Two new members, Mrs Coyle a,nd Mrs W. Easton, junr.,' were elected. During the ballot for the new committee tw® competitions Were held. The first, tying the neatest parcel out of a dinner"plate and a tennis ball, was won by Mrs Terry, and the jumbled vegetables produced so many correct that a further competition had to be given to find a winner. Mrs E. J. Spencer was finally the successful one. At the close of the ballot, Messrs T. C. Thwaites and B. Spencer, who had kindly consented to act as tellers, arrived and had a busy time counting the votes. The final result was as follows: —President, Mrs E. Butt; vicepresident, Mrs R. W. Taylor; treasurer, Mrs E. J. Spencer; secretary, Mrs J. T. Bovis; committee, Mesdames Bowler, Cole, Hyde, Hudson, Radford and Miss Butt. , Afternoon tea was served as usual.
