"OHAU SHALL I CROSS?”
An esteemed contributor writes: — During the last fortnight correspondents of the “Evening Post” have been taxing their memory to get a correct version of the lines published thirty years ago on the “place names” attached to rivers in the Manawatu district. The following appeared in the “Maiiawatu Farmer” when it was published at Shannon and the lines were attributed to Mr Crosbie Ward: — 0-liau shall I cross the river O-hau? Wai-kan-'ae not swim to yon shore? O-tak-i a, boat and O-rou-a across In the Man-a-wat-u did before.
