CHAMPION KINKS CONTEST

The Manawatu Bowling Centre’s annual champion of champions rinks contest was completed at Palmerston North on Saturday. For the tourney the Centre had beeri divided into four sections, and the winning club of each was found. The four teams which qualified were Dannevirke, ShanFeilding and Palmerston North, who played off. Palmerston played Shannon, Dannevirke meeting Feilding, the first-named rink in each game winning. The final resulted in a win for Palmerston North by 23 to 13. Results of the games were as follows:- — - Dannevirke (Conway, Carson, Rans6m and Gilbert skip) 15 beat Feilding (Moore, Williamson, Ryss and Herdman skip) 13. Palmerston North (Wilson, Matheson, Brown, and Crump skip) 26 beat Shannon (H. Butt, E. Butt, Knowles and Gagliardi skip) 10. Describing the play the Manawatu Standard states that Shannon were outplayed, scoring on only seven heads. Shannon rink opened their account first, but Palmerston North took the lead on the fourth head and went steadily ahead. With 11 heads played, the Palmerston rink led by 17 to 3, and with 19 by 24 to 8. Two followed to Palmerston North, and the Shannon rink scored similarly, on the last head.

OTAKI RETAIN FEATHERS. A strong rink from Shannon —Aims. McLeggan, Whebley, and Bovis (s)—visited Otaki on Saturday to p’av the holders of the Feathers —Noble, Pcarse, ■ Wilmot, and Scott .s). The green, owing to rain in ’he morning, was not keen, and neither side played Up to form. Otaki opened with three, followed by one on the second head, and a similar score on the third, s—o.5 —0. This gave them the advantage, but as Shannon scored two on the following two heads the game became more even. However, Otaki gained a three, and led B—2.8 —2. By .the time the tenth head was readied Shannon were only two down, B—lo,,8 —10,, and by gaining four on the fourteenth head, gained the lead, 13—12, then they made the game 14— 12, 16—13) 16—15, while on the 19th head Otaki evened matters, 16 —16. On the 20-th head, just as an excitingfinish was expected, Otaki scored a three, 19—16, followed by a two on the last head, 21 —16.
