The above meeting was held in the Council Chambers last evening, the president (Mr A. Blackwood) presiding. Several apologies for absence were received. BALANCE SHEET. The balance sheet presented-showed the Club to be in a good position financially. Last year a balance of £l2 18s (id was carried forward. The_ receipts for the past season were £45 2s 4d and the expenditure £44 8s lid and together with the balance from last year, the Club’s credit balance now stands at £l3 11s lid. Mr B. Spencer stated it was pleasing to know that the Club was still on the right side of the ledger, despite the expense of the continuous shifting about.
Mr Gagliardi, said they were in a unique position in having a credit balance and the cheapness of their golf. The secretary said members must not lose sight of the fact that their position was due to the generosity of landowners over Avhose properties they played. PRESIDENT’S REPORT. The President’s report was as follows: —“The Club, considering the number of members, ha? had a very successful year in every way. Firstly, the success has been mainly due to those people who have made play possible in that Messrs H. and C. Easton and Messrs Stern Bros, placed very fine land at our disposal which have made very excellent links and were admired by all who played on them. Four medal matches were played during the season and here it was pleasing to note that four of the first year players were medal winners.' May, medal Match: Miss Saxon, Mr B. Spencer; June match, Mrs Saxon, Mr C. Stem; July match, Miss Rankin, Mr H. McKenzie; August match, Miss Saxon, Mr 11. Stern. Two matches were played against each of the following clubs —Foxton, Levin and Manawatu resulting in a win each for each club. These inter-club games were played in the spirit' they should have been played and were enjoyed by all the players. Leyin and Foxton Clubs were visited on their respective opening days and very enjoyable afternoons were spent. A number of competitions were held during the season. Two of our members played in the Manawatu championships, Messrs- Blyth and Goodwin, the former getting as far as the finals, being'beaten by that fine old player— Mr A. Seifert. During the year driving pegs were put up and a. great improvement made in the driving of the players who vied with one ‘another in distance. The golf house was enlarged during the year and in this matter the Club desires to thank all those who took part in the work of erection, especially Mr Bert Spencer, who carried out the majon'part of the work. The additions to the golf house have been appreciated by all, especially the ladies who have won a little more room to move round when attending to heeds of the inner man. Yeoman work was done by our Captain and Grounds Superintendent, Mr Archie Saxon,, so ably seconded by his good _ wife ; and the family in making the links what they wore to play on. To the scciotaiy, Mi Morgan, I desire to place on record the club’s appreciation of his work for the club. Mr Morgan dcvqtes a very large amount of his spare time to the club and the fact that we have a credit balance of £l3 11s lid goes to show what a fine officer you have. The ladies, the committee especially desire to thank for their work in supplying the refreshments on playing days; even on very boisterous days they always came along. Several old members have left or are leaving the district viz., Mr and Mrs T. Johnston, Messrs J. Murray, J Burgis and Mr liume. Special thanks are due to Messrs Hugh, Easton, Chas. Easton, and 'Stern Bros, for the use of their lan ato play on. It is to be hoped that the club may long enjoy the privy lege of playing on these splendid link which will improve each year. The club looks forward to an even more successful season than last. I would therefore ask all members to do tlieii best to bring along new members. I thank the club and its committee fo: the splendid support given during tin past season and I wish you a very pros perous season during 1928.”
ELECTION OE OFFICERS. The election of officers resulted a: follows: —President, Mr A. Blackwood (re-elected); vice-president, Air J Gagliardi; dub captain, Mr H. Jones; lion, secretary, Mr A. 11. Morgan (reelected); committee, Messrs 11. Stern W. Goodwin, W. 11. McKenzie, R. Breur, President, vice-president, club captain, and secretary ex officio. Ladies’ committee: Mesdames Cronquest, Morgan,, Spencer, C. Easton, T. Moynihan. Misses Sinclair, D. Jones, and Rankin.
SUBSCRIPTION. In moving a motion that the subscription for the ensuing season be raised as follows: Gents £2 2s, ladies £1 Is, Mr F. Murray said his idea was to get funds to enable them to get better greens, which he contended would cause an increase in membership. Mr W. Goodwin seconded the motion.
The secretary, Mr Morgan, held that the green compared more than favourably with some of the neighbouring clubs. He pointed out that the green was top-dressed last year and a start to prepare it whs made early this year, therefore it should be much improved for the coming season. . Mr Gagliardi said an increase in the subscription would probably break the Club up, as the majority of members only played for amusement. If an increase was made there were several members who would not bother'to join.
'Miss Sinclair moved an amendment that the 'subscription be gents 255, ladies 15s, which was seconded by Mrs Cronquest. . 1 On a vote being taken the amendment was carried, only the movers of the motion ormosing it. It was decided that the subscription
for players under 18 years of„age be 10s per annum. THANKS TO LAND OWNERS. The' President said that if members looked back to the facilities .that had been accorded them by Mr Easton and Messrs Stern Bros, in allowing them the use of their land to play over, they would appreciate their kindness and while they have people like them who foster sport it means the Club will prosper. If the, Club had not got this :and last season they would possibly have gone out of existence. He moved that a vote of thanks be accorded them in the minute book. i Mr Morgan said he would go further and move that Messrs 11. and C. Sterh and Messrs Chas. and Hugh Easton be elected honorary playing members with all the privileges of players. This was unanimously carried. A vote of i hanks was also accorded the Press. NEW MEMBERS. Miss Allen and Mr C. Cronquest were elected members. OPENING DAY. It was decided that the official opening day be on Saturday, April 14tli.
