DEER-STALKING SEASON.

OPENING ON MARCH 24. The local deer-stalking season is to open on March 24, and will close on May 3.1. As usual, separate licenses will be issued for the two districts in the Wellington Acclimatisation Society's area —Wairarapa South and East Coast on the one hand, and Horowhenua, Oroua, and Rangitikei on the other. A departure is being made this year —the first time for fifteen years—in , having the sambur deer-stalking season the- same as for red deer. Hitherto the sambur season has been limited to June and July, but as there has been some complaint as to the number of sambur tunning on rarivate property and doing damage, it has been decided to allow stalkers to take two red and two sambur stag heads, with an unlimited nam-, ber of hinds in each district,'or four heads of red stags (with a similar provision as to hinds). The maximum points—long straight points—developed by the sambur is six, and only sixpointers are allowed to be taken.
