FOXTON OR SHANNON.

THE TELEPHONE SERVICE. At the last meeting of the Foxton Chamber of Commerce, Mr. E. N. Spiers asked- what steps were being taken by the Chamber to have the continuous telephone service for Foxton an accomplished fact. His reason for doing so, he said, was that about thirty subscribers had been added to the Foxton exchange in the Moutoa district on the distinct understanding that an all night service was to be introduced. That was some time ago and they were now beginning to feel that they had been misinformed and had signified their intention of transferring to the Shannon exchange once the Shannon Bridge was completed. It was up to the Chamber to see that faith was kept with these people and a continuous telephone service inaugurated. Mr. Christie reported that together with the secretary he had canvassed ;he local business people and had obtained the requisite number of signailives.. There only remained the private .subscribers to canvass and Mr. Smith had this matter in hand. Unr'ortunaiely he was absent from the nieet'ng. It was resolved to expedite the work immediately and that the President rnifl .Messrs Smith, Barron, Com and Spelrs confer with the Postmaster on the mutter.
