"THE NOTORIOUS LADY."
Wednesday’s picture at the Shannon Theatre will be "The Notorious Lady" which has a dramatic theme. Patrick Marlowe, an English army officer idolizes his wife, Mary, and when he finds her in another man’s room, he kills him. Mary is innocent, but claims to be guilty to save her husband whom she loves. Patrick takes the name of John Carew and goes to. Africa near the diamond river Munghanga. Later Mary goe§ to Mrs Rivers in Africa and on the boat meets Antony Walford who falls in love with her. Patrick’s idea is to get diamonds and take them back to Mary: This is also Antony’s idea, and the two men join forces to form a hazardous expedition to the Munghanga River. They are attacked by natives and Walford’s leg is broken. Patrick is unwilling to leave him and in the stress of extreme peril they learn that each loves Mary. Patrick gets back with the diamonds and thinking Mary loves Walford, doesn’t meet her. In the end the two are brought together, and an expedition starts for Walford in time to save his life.
A STERLING BRITISH PICTURE. FROM HOLLYWOOD-ON-TIIAMES. Mr'Harry Hughes, director of the new Allied Artists British, film "A Daughter in Revolt," claims the location of his studios at Walton-on-Tham-es to surpass in natural advantages anything that Hollywood can show. Only two miles distant stands a Henry VIII. country seat which was lent to the company by its titled owner for exterior scenes with a porch of the Italian Renaissance period, Old English and Italian gardens, Elizabethan bowers and a "priest’s hole" added during the reign of Bloody Mary. The gardens and meadows surrounding the mansion in Sidney Gowing’s story, might be a section of the famous Vauxhall Gardens under Charles 11. On the Thames itself the scenery varies from typically English to typically Canadian vistas. There are beaches of oand and shingle within a radius of three miles from the studio, flora of all climates at Kew, historical settings at Hampton Court, waterfront scenes at Richmond, deer in the Old Deer Park, old thatched cottages along the river-side, caves and quarries at Dorking and so on. Mr. Hughes has done a good deal of work for the U.C.1., famous Italian film producing company, but in his opinion Surrey is unrivalled for locations.
"A Daughter in Revolt,” which features pretty Miss Mabel Poitou, comes to Shannon on Friday.
