TWO OUTBREAKS OF FIRE IN SHANNON.
During the Avoek-end the Shannon Fire Brigade received t avo calls. The first was on Saturday evening at 9.30 p.m., Avhen an outbreak Avas discovered in the “bach” at the rear of Mr. Hill’s premises in Ballance Street, occupied by Mr. Rountree. Some clothing hanging on the wall in one of the rooms AA'as found to be blazing. . The alarm AA’as given, but the fire was extinguished Avith a few buckets of water before the brigade arrived. The next alarm was given at 1 a.m. on Sunday by Mr. F. Duncan, a porter at\the Railway Station, the outbreak this time being at the rear of Mr. J. V. Burns’s premises in Plimmer Terrace, among some packing cases stacked in the yard. The fire had a good hold Avhen discovered and the Avail of the adjoining premises of Mr. E. A. 11. George Avas ablaze. The brigade AA r ere quickly on the scene, and. after running out two lengths of hose, soon had the fire under control, the only damage done apart from the burning of the cases Avas the scorching of the AA-all of Mr. George’s premises.
A. strong easterly Avind was blowing and it Avas fortunate the alarm was given before the flames got a good hold,.as otherAvise there is no doubt, there would Rave been a serious conflagration and probably the Avhole block Avould have been Avipcd out.
