SUPERCHARGERS

The supercharger is now recognised as a decided acquisition in getting higher speeds out of racing cars. And it lias been adopted,, though not very extensively as yet, for touring models. It was originally estimated that possibly 2 h.p or 3 h.p. were sufficient to drive a supercharger at high speed, but it is now definitely known that the power required will run from 20 h.p. to 40 h.p. But the additional amount of power developed by the engine mor e than compensates for the loss on the supercharger. Supercharger speeds are now .running as high as 42,000 revolutions per minute on some of the fast racers in America. Pressures developed at thf.se higher speeds are greater than ever before, and it is possible to get 251 b. and more pressure per inch.
