BUTTER STEADY AT INCREASE. The New Zealand Dairy Produce Board has received the following market. report from its London office, dated 31st December, 1927: — BUTTER. The market is steady. Deliveries of New Zealand last week were 1200 tons, in store 3500 tons. Quotations are as follows, those for the previous week being given in parentheses: — New Zealand. —Salted 1625—164 s (1605—1625), unsalted 1665—170 s (168s—170s). Australian. —Finest salted 156s — 160 s (154s —160 s), unsalted 1605—164 s (1605—1625). Argentine.—Finest unsalted 150s — 156 s up to 160 s (154s —1565). Danish.—lß2s—184 s spot, 172 s f.o.b. (lS2s—lß4s). Dutch.—Creamery unsalted 1865,188 s ,188 s (184s-‘-188s). Siberian. —Salted 1525—154 s (146 s —l4Bs). Rctfiil prices.—-New Zealand Is 7d, Danish Is 9d. , TEN MONTHS IMPORTS. Total ewts. 4,9.72,541 4,980,518 In 1925, the total was 4,999,572 cwts., of which Denmark contributed 1,354,851 ewts., New Zealand 1,117,855 cwts., and Australia 992,582 ewts. PRICES IN AMERICA. The Board has also received the following advice from its agents in Canada: — Butter. —New York 52 cents (2/2), Montreal 361 cents (1/6:1), San Francisco 48 cents.(2/-). Stocks of butter in Montreal, 145,373 boxes; last year, 88,553 boxes. CHEESE MARKET. Quotations are as follow, the market being firm: — - New Zealand.—White 91s—94s (90s —9ls), coloured 91s—93s up to 94s (88s —90s). Canadian. —Finest white 100s—104s (102s —104 s), coloured 100s —102 s up to 104 s (100s—104s). - English.—Finest farmers 126s —130 s (12Gs—130s). . The retail price is reduced to Is per lb.
TEN MONTHS’ IMPORTS. Imports' of cheese into Great Britain for the ten months ended 31st October are as follows: —
Total .cwt. 2,568,375 2,471,886 It will be noted that Canada’s export of cheese is -steadily declining. In 1925 it was 977,694 cwts, while New Zealand sent 1,278,710 cwts. to Britain. By 3927 Canada’s export had decreased by 37 per cent., while New’ Zealand’s had increased by twelve per cent.
